In 2002, Irene Ray and her former partner founded what was then known as ID’s Enterprises, Inc. ID’s began with only a single Truck Mounted Attenuator truck (TMA) and the vision of two women of success in the highway safety industry. A few years later, Irene acquired sole ownership of the company. She changed the company name to IDS Highway Safety Inc. to better reflect the company’s specialty, providing experienced and well-trained employees as both TMA drivers and roadway flag persons to protect construction workers. Irene, along with her daughter-in-law, Kristen, and their dedicated team of employees, worked tirelessly to build the company’s reputation in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. IDS Highway Safety is certified in both states as a WBE (Women Business Enterprise) and DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) and is newly certified in Connecticut as well. IDS is a proud member of the Rhode Island Laborers’ Union, the Massachusetts Laborers’ Union and the Teamsters Local 251. IDS is also a member of CIRI, the Construction Industries of Rhode Island. In 2018, after leaving her mark on the industry, Irene retired. IDS has expanded its services to now provide traffic control safety set-ups, installation and breakdown of temporary traffic control equipment and traffic control products available for purchase to contractors. Kristen continues Irene’s legacy with a fleet of almost three dozen TMA’s and traffic control set-up trucks, various traffic safety products available for purchase or rental and a dedicated staff of approximately 90.
